George F. Qua (’52) named Distinguished Fiji

George F. Qua was honored as a 2001 Distinguished Fiji by the International Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta.

George F. Qua (Michigan ’52)

Brother Qua owned and operated Qua Buick Suzuki Inc. in Cleveland from 1957 to 1997 with his Fiji brother, Stephen M Qua (Michigan ’55). During this time, the dealership received many awards Including Time magazine’s Quality Dealer or the Year Award. Buick’s ‘”Best In Class Award,” and the Select Sixty Award for being one of the top 60 Buick dealers 1n the country in sales. He has been actively involved with the Fraternity since he served the Alpha Phi Chapter at Michigan as corresponding secretary when he was an undergraduate. He is a member of the Cleveland Graduate Chapter and served on the host committee for the 122nd Ekklesia held in Cleveland in 1970. He is involved in a number of civic organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, the Better Business Bureau, the Red Cross, and the Department of Defense National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve. He was co-founder of Leadership Cleveland and the Council of Smaller Enterprises. He served m the U.S. Army from 1952-56 and following his release from active duty in 1956, he served In the Army Reserves from 1957-84, retiring as a full Colonel. Brother Qua’s grandfather, Shirley W. Smith (Michigan 1897), was a Fiji, as are numerous uncles and cousins, and he is the sire of two Fiji sons. David (Michigan ’85) and Paul (DePauw ’82).
