Phelps “Flip” Connell completed his journey here on earth and rejoined his beloved wife, Jean, on October 22, 2013. Flip was truly an asset to Phi Gamma Delta at the University of Michigan, but beyond all else, he was a friend.
Flip graduated from the University of Michigan with a B. A. in Economics in 1949. During his tenure, he joined Phi Gamma Delta and even found his wife, Jean. Despite moving away and raising a family, Flip and Jean remained connected to the University and even returned back in to Ann Arbor in the mid-90’s.
Flip joined the Board of Phi Gamma Delta, leading them through a re-colonization at University of Michigan in 2002. In recognition of his leadership and dedication, he was awarded Outstanding Greek Alumnus in 2002 by the U of M Inter-Fraternity Council, and the Phi Gamma Delta Award for Leadership the same year. Even after this journey, Flip continued to support the fraternity in any way he could, whether it was helping out with maintaining 707 Oxford, mentoring undergrads, or even hosting events at his house.
Flip was an inspiration to many, but an example to us all. He will be sorely missed, but we are all better for knowing him.
